A big band helping a big cause

The Swing Shift Big Band is bringing its special style of jazz to QSSIS Banquet Halls on Sunday, Feb. 13, to get you dancing and to raise funds for the 2011 To Rouge with Love annual campaign for cardiac care.

Al Minshull, President & Program Director of the Big Band Valentine's Bash, said the idea to support the RVHSF and the To Rouge with Love event came about when he realized that many residents in the Scarborough area love big band music and, at the same time many of them depend on Rouge Valley for medical services.

"As a non-profit organization, the idea was to present the music and, at the same time partner with a deserving organization that people can relate to,"he explained. "If you like any kind of big band music from the big band era, including the Frank Sinatra years, you are missing something if you don't come to the concert."

The 17 piece professional band and two vocalists have a large and varied repertoire of songs and tailor every concert to any type of audience. With table seating and space for dancing, the bash is a perfect way to celebrate Valentine's Day.

The band and RVHSF would like to thank events sponsors BMO Nesbitt Burns and the BMO Guildwood Branch, which have provided financial assistance to make the event possible.

This year To Rouge with Love funds will support the Heart of it All campaign to purchase new echocardiogram machines for both the Ajax and Pickering and Centenary hospital sites.
