More Americans Opting for LTCI, More Jobs for LTC Professionals

As the U.S. life expectancy rate continues to rise, more and more people are recognizing the benefits of long-term care insurance (LTCI) to help offset the costs of care not covered by Medicare, Medicaid or standard health insurance.

Recently the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance (AALTCI) reported that 25 states showed double-digit increases in the number of individuals with long-term care insurance. In Wyoming the number of adults with LTCI increased to 62 percent, while Alaska showed an increase of nearly 130 percent.

For those in the long-term care industry, the increased demand means more job opportunities for LTC professionals—including nursing home and assisted living facility staff, home care and hospice providers, as well as rehabilitation and therapy workers. Depending upon the individual policy, LTCI may cover full-time care up to 7 days a week.

“Sales of long-term care insurance are increasing as more consumers recognize the importance and affordability of this protection,” said AALTCI Executive Director Jesse Slome. “Many insurance agents are having their best years, as prospects are seeking them out; something that has never occurred before.”
