So many Americans have forgotten what this day is truly about. Why we have this day off. Why we as a Nation celebrate. Today July 4th has become simply just known as the 4th of July. It is easy, fun, cool and hip to say the 4th as it seems to fit the festive celebrations. But in the United States of America July 4th is simply not just the 4th of July it is called Independence Day and we seem to have forgot that as a nation. That's right today has an official name Independence Day because it is the day we declared our independence from the Crown of Great Britain. Independence, not dependence, but actual independence as a nation and a people.
So while you light up fireworks and fire up the grill remember what this day is really about. It is not about the beach, or cold beer, hot dogs and hamburgers and a firework display. Sure that is a part of theme and festivities. Sure we will all, myself included, be partaking in those events this week. But what July 4th is about is something that happened that day in 1776. The thirteen colonies of British North America in general Congress declared to the world that they are free independent States. The Declaration of Independence was passed and the United States of America was born. This is America's birthday and the Declaration of Independence is our nation's birth certificate.
It is a statement in two folds, one saying we a free and independent country able to govern ourselves without any allegiance to any foreign power. The document details our reasons for separation and reinforces the right of people to govern themselves, to form their own nation and not be subjected to a foreign distant regime.
The second part is just as extraordinary. It sums up the deep held thoughts of man over the years. The yearnings and wishes of free people all over the world, that "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness." That government would be instituted by men not divine rule or a dictatorship but from the consent of the govern in order to protect these rights. The rights of man do not come from government they come from God, they are self-evident as being natural not man-made. The Declaration then proclaims that anytime government become destructive or is a burden upon our liberties we the people have the right and the duty to abolish it. That's right we the people have the right to overthrow our government if oppressive. What a revolutionary concept.

This concept while not invented in 1776 but summed up in the Declaration of Independence would lead to governments of the people in each of the newly formed States, republics. It would be this new found unity and independence under the same values in the Declaration of Independence that would lead to the Constitution of the United States the forming of the greatest Republic ever known to man. The system of government under the Constitution established a limited Constitutionally defined federal government with a system of checks and balances, protection of rights and powers divided and shared among the central federal government and the States. This was the best government on the planet and it enough allowed for a process of amendments.
Now I am not advocating a revolution of overthrowing the government of the United States, as is our right in the Declaration of Independence. I am advocating a return to our government, the original government as intended under the Constitution and as legally Amended over the years. I want a return to the limited federal government under the Constitution. I want a government that our founders would be proud of on all levels, small in size and scope only to do what is necessary for the public interest and to protect our country and our rights. I want a nation that is strong, free and independent not afraid to uphold our history, culture, language, heritage and values. I want a country free as advocated in the Declaration of Independence, free from any foreign power or influence. A nation that is not beholden to its creditors, that is debt free and not at the mercy of foreign powers. I want a self-governing nation that is not beholden to the UN or any other international organizations. I want a nation of free people to rule over themselves, take personal responsibility, be free and not be dependent upon government. Remember Independence Day is not just independence for a nation but for a whole people. We the people must not be dependent upon others for our existence, including the government.
So on this day now called the Fourth of July, I want all to remember what it is really about. It is about Independence! Let us as a nation go back a system of free government, that limited government under the Constitution. Let freedom ring! Remember what July, 4th, 1776 was about and what it means for us today. I want to wish all fellow patriots a great Independence Day and Happy Birthday America! May God continue to bless America.
