Auxiliary celebrating 60 years of dedication

Ajax and Pickering hospital volunteers mark major milestone on Sunday, October 30

This year the volunteers of the Auxiliary to Rouge Valley Ajax and Pickering hospital (RVAP) are celebrating a precious milestone, the diamond anniversary, having supported their community hospital for 60 inspirational years.

“The Auxiliary and the hospital are two parts of one whole,” says Bev Carmichael, President of the Auxiliary to Rouge Valley Ajax and Pickering hospital. “We are so proud of the dedication the hundreds of volunteers have provided to local health care over those 60 years and we are excited to be able to celebrate this milestone with an event that will bring together many of those volunteers, past and present."

The special occasion will be marked by an afternoon tea at the Ajax Senior Citizens Friendship Club, 46 Exeter Road, Ajax, on Sunday, Oct. 30. The tea is from 2 to 4 p.m. and all past and present members of the Auxiliary are encouraged to attend.

The Auxiliary is a lead donor in the Image is Everything campaign, which has brought an MRI machine to RVAP. Their $500,000 pledge matches the largest donation made to the campaign, to date. Rouge Valley Health System Foundation President and CEO, Chad Hanna, says he was grateful, but not surprised, that the Auxiliary committed to such a tremendous gift to the hospital.

“These volunteers are the cornerstone of Ajax and Pickering’s hospital,” says Mr. Hanna. “The Auxiliary existed before the hospital was even constructed and they have always been there to support in any way needed.”
